NEW:  "Choose What You Pay Pricing"

We don’t want the price to keep anyone from coming.

This year we’re using a new 3-tier system and you choose what you pay

    1. “Pay a little more” adds 25% to the cost.
    2. The actual cost to attend.
    3. “Pay a little less” subtracts 25% from the cost.

The past year has been challenging and our church family includes people with a wide range of financial situations. If the actual cost would be tight for you, please choose the “pay a little less” rate. Conversely, if you are weathering the pandemic well and are able to pay more, you can be a blessing to others by choosing the “pay a little more” rate.

If the “pay a little less” cost is still difficult for you, please contact Pastor Spencer at 503-695-2243 or spencer@menucha.org and we will work something out. Scholarships are available—and that’s what these funds are for!

(More information on the FPC session's efforts to support this fellowship event is posted further down this page.)

Session Approves Funding to Increase Retreat Attendance and Fellowship

While the FPC All Church Labor Day Retreat is often called “the fellowship event of the year” by many in our congregation, funding for the retreat has not been in FPC’s annual budget for a long time.  Therefore, prices had to be set so that attendees’ fees would cover all expenses: lodging, food, speaker fee, supplies, etc.

This year the FPC Fellowship Committee felt the retreat could be especially helpful after the pandemic had separated the congregation for so long but worried that the cost might keep some away. They proposed, and Session approved, the use of funds from the Greenwood Trust to help make the All Church Labor Day Retreat more affordable to as many members of our church community as possible.

Guest Leader Beth Gunn and Sharing Our Stories

Beth GunnOur retreat program's theme is Sharing Our Stories. As part of this, please bring two things with you to Menucha:

      1. A tangible item that tells something about you that we cannot know by just looking at you (to be used in small groups Saturday morning)
      2. A picture of yourself as a baby or very young child. This should be a hard copy not on your phone/ electronic device.

A bit about Beth:

Beth Gunn is a recreation leader from Western North Carolina.  She is the Associate for Youth for the Presbytery of Western North Carolina with a particular emphasis in the field of Recreation Ministry. She lives in the mountains of North Carolina with her husband and pandemic puppy.  Their 3 daughters are all out of the nest and while she and Bruce miss them a lot they are enjoying being “GG” and "Grumps" to their 3 granddaughters! Beth says that taking time with her family to play together has been a lifelong priority and has made for a richer and stronger bond.

This is a general overview. The planning committee is working on our schedule and will give you a copy when you get here.

Retreating during Pandemic Times: Please Care for One Another

As you consider whether to attend the FPC All Church Labor Day Retreat, please keep the following in mind.

  1. We highly recommend that all adult participants be fully vaccinated at least 2 weeks before their arrival at Menucha.
  2. We will give a full refund, even up to the day of arrival, to anyone who feels ill or learns they may have been exposed to Covid-19. Thank you for staying home.
  3. We highly encourage any unvaccinated guest to wear a mask when inside buildings.
  4. We believe people must weigh the potential risks of going anywhere in public and make the choice that feels right for them.
  5. If you would like to read Menucha's complete statement on how we are hosting safely, please click here.
